What are the similarities and differences between printing and dyeing?

 (1) Similarities

1. The dyeing and fixation principles of applied dyes are similar.

2. The physical and chemical properties of the chemical additives used are similar.

3. The same type of fiber can have the same color fastness if it is colored and printed with the same dye.


(2) Differences

1. Add no or a small amount of thickening paste to the coloring solution, and add more thickening paste to the printing paste.

2. Coloring solution, the dye is easy to dissolve, no co-solvent is added. For printing paste, add more co-solvent.

3. When coloring, the dye penetrates and diffuses fully. When printing, the dye is not easy to diffuse and penetrate, and must be steamed or baked.

4. Coloring and printing may have special requirements for the same type of dye.

5. Color matching is rarely done with two different types of dyes. Printing often uses different types of dyes

6. Printed fabrics have particularly strict requirements on the weft and skew of semi-finished products.

7. Printing is better than coloring at covering defects in natural cotton fabrics.

8. Coloring and printing have different pre-processing requirements for semi-finished products.
